World Stroke Day 2011

DO NOT TAKE CHANCES.
ONE IN SIX PEOPLE IS AT RISK FOR STROKE – IT COULD BE YOU.
LEARN THE FACTS.
SAVE A LIFE TODAY. ACT NOW!

Every six seconds, regardless of age or gender, someone will die from a stroke. Stroke is the second leading cause for death for people above the age of 60.

The World Stroke Organization is preparing several worldwide Stroke Awareness Campaigns for advocacy groups, patient survivor support networks, volunteer stroke societies, public health authorities and physicians.

The World Stroke Organization, which sponsors World Stroke Day annually, wants you to Act Now by taking these six challenges to lower stroke risk:

  1. Know the risk factors for stroke— high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and high blood cholesterol — and keep them in a healthy range.
  2. Be physically active.
  3. Eat a healthy diet.
  4. Limit alcohol consumption.
  5. Avoid cigarette smoke. If you smoke, seek help to stop now.
  6. Learn to recognize the warning signs of a stroke and how to take action
